Box Office – Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira opens fine for a female centric action affair

Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira has taken the best start amongst all female centric releases of 2016. With 5.15 crore coming in on Day One, the film has managed to find a decent footing for itself.

When compared to the other female centric films of 2016, this is how Akira stands:

Akira – 5.15 crore
Neerja – 4.7 crore
Sarbjit – 3.69 crore
Happy Bhag Jayegi – 2.32 crore
One Night Stand – 0.6 crore

It has helped the film that it carries name A.R. Murugadoss as the director. He is the most experienced of the lot when compared to the other filmmakers who have made aforementioned movies. Moreover, the director has the legacy of two 100 crore films behind him [Ghajini, Holiday] which has helped in better credentials as well. That said, on the flipside this one is a female centric film and that too with an action theme, something which has not been explored by many filmmakers as well as actresses.

The 30 crore film has recovered more than half its investment already through sales of satellite and music rights, hence a good Week One can take it past the recovery mark. Hence, the film needs to see some sort of decent growth for rest of the weekend. It would be interesting to see how masses scale up the film’s collections in days to come since the film is primarily targeting that set of audience.

Three other releases of the week, Yea Toh Two Much Ho Gaya, Sunshine Music Tours and Travels and Island City, have been non-starters. That said, Island City has seen better reviews from select critics.

The film is released by Distribution Club in Pakistan .Is getting good reviews and is expected to pick up momentum at the box office collection.

Katrina Kaif: 'Baar Baar Dekho is a very important film for me

With couple of duds in the recent past, Katrina Kaif is leaving no stone un-turned in promoting her upcoming release Baar Baar Dekho, directed by debutante director Nitya Mehra.

Along with her co-star, Sidharth Malhotra, she’s going all out taking the film to different cities and promoting it in the most quirky way possible.

Katrina candidly elaborates in a recent interview that all the running around city to city promoting the film gets definitely very tiring and hectic but Baar Baar Dekho is a very important film for her. She added that her previous release, Fitoor was not very well received at the box office and that was definitely heart breaking which makes all the more important for her that she once again come with a strong film that gets audiences’ love.”

While Katrina was saw raging success for over half a decade (with a string of hit films), it was the sudden gap between her releases that was the reason for people trying to write her off, despite the fact that only two of her films, Phantom and Fitoor failed at the box office.

Katrina's career seems to be looking up and if reports are to be believed, she is likely to be teamed with Fawad Khan for Karan Johar’s next under Dharma Productions, to be directed by debutant director Aditya Dhar.

Katrina further  clarified that she have not announced any of future films as yet. There are discussions happening right now with few different people on different projects but nothing is announced yet.

Baar Baar Dekho is set to release on  9th September 2016 by Distribution Club across Pakistan.
